Here they are depicted as Saint Anne and Saint Joachim – Gian Galeazzo's son Azzone (the little figure right) and his daughter Valentina (the little figure left) from his first marriage to Isabella of Valois were witnesses of this ceremony.
directly behind him are his sons Giovanni Maria (left) and Filippo Maria (right), which is historically incorrect: in 1396 his 11-year-old illegitimate son Gabriele Maria and his eight-year-old legitimate son Giovanni Maria were present, his four-year-old legitimate son Filippo Maria was not.
Have a look at his robe, which is decorated with one of the most important symbols of the Visconti, the radiant sun!
This portrait of him was made in the 18th century. It is very interesting to see that even in the 18th century the people still knew with which specific symbols the Visconti decorated themselves to show us who they were. In this case Gian Galeazzo Visconti was richly adorned with the Visconti symbols of the star-like sun and the white dove with the banner "a buon droyt".
