July 1624; his first spouse was the sister of the French King Henry IV., Catherine of Bourbon and Navarre, they married in 1599; no children were produced in this marriage; his second spouse was Margherita Gonzaga (1591-1632), a daughter of Vincenzo I. Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua, and of Eleonora de' Medici, they married in 1606 and had four daughters
2. her daughter Christina, born on 16. August 1565, deceased on 19. December 1637; she married Ferdinand I. (1549-1609), Grand Duke of Tuscany
3. her son Charles, born on 1. July 1567, deceased on 24. November 1607, Bishop of Strasbourg and since 1589 Cardinal of Lorraine
4. her daughter Antoinette, born on 26. August 1568, deceased on 23. August 1610; she married Duke Johann Wilhelm of Kleve-Jülich-Berg (1562-1609)
5. her daughter Anna, born in 1569, deceased in 1576
6. her son Francis II., Duke of Lorraine, born on 27. February 1572, deceased on 14. October 1632; in 1597 he married Christine of Salm (1575-1627); three sons and three daughters
